Official Symbols and Facts

State Flag - adopted in 1927
and modified in 1961

State Seal - adopted in 1861. "Ad astra per aspera" means "to the stars through difficulty"

State Animal - Buffalo
(Buffalo herd at the Maxwell Wildlife Refuge)

State Tree - Cottonwood Tree

The cottonwood tree frequently grows close to water and its sighting by early travelers across the state was always a welcome sight.

State Flower - Sunflower
