Ancient Greece & Rome Critical Thinking

It is not unusual for a powerful nation to influence the tastes and style of other nations. American jeans are worn in France and Russia. Much art of the ancient world resembles Egyptian art possibly because of the size, wealth and influence of the Egyptian empire.

Greek art developed from a style similar in many ways to Egyptian art, but something happened that was profoundly different from anything that had come before. The beginning of democracy allowed for a humanistic philosophy that resulted, for the first time, in gods being portrayed as idealized human beings. That difference influenced every civilization touched by ancient Greece and Rome.

In the modern world, how is art and culture influenced by political and economic power?  How have you been influenced?
